Ellis Master Pronounciation
ELLIS
Master Pronunciation is a powerful tool to help learners improve
their accents and listening comprehension. Pronunciation displays
sounds pronounced by male and female models, with animated
sequences showing articulation points of the tongue, teeth
and lips for each phoneme. Learners can record themselves
pronouncing these sounds and words at their own pace. Minimal
Pairs activities can be chosen for language-specific or individual
needs. 2,500 minimal pairs provide an almost unlimited source
for auditory-discrimination practice. Speech Acts offers thousands
of opportunities to learn and record new dialogue within the
comfortable ELLIS environment. Speech Acts is a new feature
available only in Master Pronunciation. Master Tutor provides
instructions for producing each phoneme to speakers of 28
languages: Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Cantonese, Chinese,
Creole, Danish, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew,
Hindi Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese,
Magyar, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese,
and Thai. Tongue Twisters contains over 100 randomly-ordered
phrases spoken by male and female voices. Learners attempt
to pronounce each linguistically-complex twister at their
own pace. Context-sensitive help screens guide learners through
the program with easy-to-follow instructions and graphics.
Ellis Placement
ELLIS Placement is an adaptive placement exam which helps
evaluate students' level of skill in ESL/EFL and place them
within the ELLIS suite of products. Placement includes more
than 1,000 validated questions testing the skills of grammar,
reading, vocabulary and listening comprehension. Placement
estimates each learner's range of ESL proficiency, then tests
the learner within that range to yield fast, accurate results.
Each test begins with a question of average difficulty. If
the student responds correctly, Placement's estimate of the
learner's ability increases. If the learner responds incorrectly,
the estimate decreases. In either case, Placement establishes
a range of the learner's ability, then chooses questions from
that range. Responses to subsequent questions allow Placement
to arrive at a final analysis of the learner's ability. The
ELLIS Instructor Utilities allow instructors to control test
parameters including time allowed to answer each question.
Instructors can look up test data of any learner's performance,
view and hear each question of the any test taken by the student,
and print test reports with a click of a button. Placement
also assigns learners a proficiency level in each of the four
skills tested, providing information for further diagnosis
by the instructor. If you are using other ELLIS programs,
Placement will suggest the ELLIS program and the lesson within
that program that best suits the needs of each learner. Placement
can also be used as a standalone testing instrument. Institutions
can administer the test as often as needed to an unlimited
number of students for no additional cost. FEATURES places
a learner in about 30 minutes, making it ideal for institutions
with large ESL/EFL enrollments includes pre-tests and post-tests
for ELLIS Senior MasteryTM, ELLIS Middle MasteryTM, and ELLIS
IntroTM identifies examinee's weaknesses and strengths in
