A Software Guide for the LINC Classroom
This
guide has been developed for the LINC (Language Instruction
for Newcomers to Canada) instructors in Ontario to assist
them in providing Computer-Assisted Language Learning
(CALL). It includes comprehensive step-by-step instructions
and explanations about the use of the following software:
Explore Canada, ELLIS (Intro, Middle Mastery, Senior Mastery, Master
Pronunciation, Placement, and Instructor Utilities), Tense Buster (including Tense Buster Authoring), Microsoft
Word, and Windows 95 at five levels of instruction. Each
level includes sample lesson plans and suggested activities
that have been aligned with the LINC 1-5 Curriculum Guidelines
developed for Ontario. Additional tools in the guide include
an introduction to CALL and CMC (Computer Mediated Communication),
lab rules and maintenance, troubleshooting and networking,
as well as a computer skills checklist, glossaries, and
electronic resources for instructors and learners.
