Road to IELTS
It's so much easier for candidates to do well in an
exam if they know exactly what to expect. This is where
the British Council's Road to IELTS provides candidates
with a unique advantage. It includes 120 hours of intensive
work on vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and
speaking, helping them to develop their skills to the
levels necessary to succeed in the IELTS exam. The program
simulates the exam itself, enabling candidates to view
videos of the Speaking test, and to practise against
the clock. The Listening section includes timed academic
and social listening activities. Reading activities
are based on an impressive array of authentic texts:
The Economist, New Internationalist, the British Medical
Journal, and many more.
One
of the challenges of IELTS preparation is enabling learners
to interpret and describe charts and tables. Road to
IELTS includes a wealth of these graphics and more than
70 exercises. The program includes detailed explanations
of each question type in each part of the exam, and
tips on how best to tackle the tasks.
The
units are organised thematically using themes commonly
found in the IELTS exam. The first six units familiarise
the student with the basic test types. Units 7-9 consolidate,
using more complex content, and the last three units
use combination activities which are very similar to
the exam itself.
